In an unprecedented initiative to promote fitness and wellness while engaging in competitive play along side your coworkers, The Dallas Sheriff's Department has entered the 2011 BlueCross BlueShield of Texas Corporate Challenge!
Olympic Style Competition
The Challenge involves 22 athletic and non-athletic events, produced by the City of Richardson
10 Weeks of Games
The Challenge takes place over a 10-week period that starts in late August and concludes in late October. Events are held in the Richardson area and are scheduled during the week after normal business hours and on weekends. All full-time employees, spouses, and retirees are eligible to participate for free!! Go to the Roster to see who all is on the list to represent our department!
Events
5K Run - 6 runners - 3 men, and 3 women (one runner must be 40 or older)
Badminton - 6 players - 2 man, 2 women, 1 mixed
Bike Race - 4 riders - 2 men, 2 women (one rider must be 40 or older)
Billiards - 6 players - 2 men, 2 women, 1 mixed team
Bowling - 10 players - no more than 6 of either gender per team
Darts - 6 players - 2 men, 2 women, 1 mixed team
Dodgeball - 6 players - 3 men, 3 women (can play more women than men)
Golf - 2 foursomes - one member of opposite sex on each team
Horseshoes - 6 players - 2 men, 2 women, 1 mixed team
Kickball - 10 players - 5 men, 5 women (can play more women than men)
Soccer - 11 players - no gender requirement
Softball - 10 players - 5 men, 5 women - can play more women than men
Tennis - 6 players - 2 men, 1 mixed team, 1 mixed over 40 team
Volleyball - 6 players - 3 men, 3 women (can play more women than men)
Contact
An emphasis will be placed on a strong competitive showing and space may be limited in certain popular sports. Detective Ron Pirkle will be the coordinator for this challenge. If you are interested in competing in any of these events please contact him by e-mail at rpirkle@dallascounty.org. We are looking for team captains as well. If you feel that you are a strong objective judge of talent in any of the events and would like to be responsible for conducting tryouts and practices, indicate that in your e-mail.
